Biography   Jack Stuppin


John Barbey Stuppin attended the School of Fine Arts at Columbia University in New York and the San Francisco Art Institute, where he studied with Jay De Feo Sam Tchakalian and Bill Allan. Later, during the 1970s, he became a trustee of the Institute. In the late 50s he served to the rank of captain in the US Marines.

Stuppin often paints en plein air and frequently he uses the outdoor work as an inspiration for large studio pieces. He is noted for his colorful works depicting Sonoma County, California.

Beginning in 1988 and through the early 1990s he was part of an en plein air painting group informally known as the Sonoma Four, which included Tony King, William Morehouse and William Wheeler. In 1992 they toured the United St   ...  Displaying 750 of 2547 characters.
