French artist Jacques Charlier was born in 1705.
Charlier was a miniature painter from 1753 and was one of the best miniaturists of his time. He received orders from Louis XV and was also a protégé of Caylus and the Prince of Conti.
He was a pupil of François Boucher whose influence is apparent. Charlier was not an academician and rarely signed his works. He made many miniatures in ivory after the works of his master. He also worked in pastels. His work contains mythological scenes, gallant or erotic scenes as well as portraits.
He passed away in 1790.
