James "Bodie" Davis was born in Washington, D.C., on April 20, 1965. His family moved to Annapolis, Maryland, in the early eighties where he attended high school. He became interested in art at a very early age and made pencil sketches at the age of two. He later studied art extensively in various local community colleges and educational institutions. In the early nineties, he relocated to Provincetown, Massachusetts, to pursue his art career. He began exhibiting his work on Commercial Street in the Musselman Gallery, then later displayed his paintings at the Kiley Court Gallery.
