Biography James Dana
James Dwight Dana joined Wilkes' South Sea explorations from 1838-42, as geologist and zoologist draftsman. Dana executed many drawings to illustrate his reports, which were in preparation from 1842 to 1855. Through these drawings he created important additions to scientific knowledge. In 1855 he became Professor of natural history of Yale.
