Biography James E. Mitchell
An illustrator and painter in casein and oil based in Carmel, New York, James E. Mitchell (not to be confused with James Archibald Mitchell), was a student at the Pratt Institute Art School in Brooklyn, New York. He also studied in Paris at the Academy de la Grande Chaumiere and with modernist artist, Edouard Goerg (1903-1969).
Mitchell was an author and illustrator; his publications included: Hydrofoils: A Sketchbook of the Future; Motor Boating, History in the Making,˜ Boating Magazine, Shell Oil Diary,˜ Pirates of Guadeloupe, Sail Magazine, and Rudder Magazine.
He had one-man shows at Lord & Taylor Gallery, New York, 1966-69, 1970s; and Bay Harbor Galleries,
