Biography James Walsh
James Hubert Walsh was born in NY, NY in 1888 to Irish immigrants. He and his wife Mary Alice Flaherty brought up six daughters in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a reporter for the Boston Evening Record and then was employed by the Boston Chamber of Commerce where he had increasingly important positions between 1918 and 1954, which is when he retired as Managing Director.
When he contracted Tuberculosis in the mid 1940's, he painted as part of his therapy since he was required to stay at home. He had taken many trips to Ireland to sketch and paint the scenes of Ireland for which he is well known. This gave him a basis for much of the work he completed when he returned home.
He held several showings at the Copley Society
