Pickett was born 12-31-1857 and was the son of George E. Pickett, who would gain fame as the leader of "Pickett's Charge" during the Civil War battle at Gettysburg, PA., called the high water mark of the Confederacy. Pickett had been married to a Haida Indian woman in the Northwest Territory, and it was to this union that the artist was born. He was named after Gen. Pickett's adjutant and good friend, James TILTON, hence the correct spelling of his name.
