Biography Jan Garbero
A native of Ohio, Jan Garbero is a painter in pastel and oil in a variety of subjects ranging from golf subjects to a series about the Oatman Family, an historical account of settlers and Indians in Arizona in the 1850s. Her styles range from naive to abstraction.
Garbero was born in Gallon, Ohio and studied fine arts at Ohio State University in Columbus, earning her degree in 1966. She taught art in the Ohio public schools for eight years. In 1982, she moved to Arizona with her family and worked as a graphic designer and free-lance artist.
Her interest in Old West historical events led to her researching the Oatman family of frontier Arizona, and the capture of daughter, Olive, by the Indians. She began with a pastel portrait
