Jan Peter Stern was born in Berlin, Germany. Stern immigrated to the U.S. in 1938. He graduated from the College of Fine Arts at Syracuse University. Since 1958 he has lived in Los Angeles. His abstract sculptures are mostly in steel. His public art installations are in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. His works are held in the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC.
