Biography Jay Carpenter
As a student at St. Albans School in Washington DC, Jay Hall Carpenter spent his free time watching the master carvers at work on the National Cathedral. At one point a carver gave him some stone and some tools and Carpenter carved his own gargoyles, one of which was accepted as part of the Cathedral project by the Master Carver, Roger Morigi.
After high school Jay Hall Carpenter went to the Pratt Institute in New York to major in sculpture. Upon his return to Washington two years later, Carpenter began working with Brad Parker a teacher and figurative sculptor.
