Photographer, painter, muralist. Born in Orleans, California on Sept. 17, 1896. In 1900 Risling and his family moved to Palo Alto where he graduated from high school and attended Stanford University. From 191719 he served in the Navy aboard a submarine chaser and, after the war, returned to San Francisco where he studied at the CSFA for five years. During this period he also studied under Armin Hansen in Monterey and at the Denver Academy of Art.
After his art training, he worked as a commercial artist in San Francisco, married artist Edloe Johnson in 1925, and in 1934 established a studio which he shared with his wife for 45 years. Risling also was a photographer from the mid-1930s. During the 1939 GGI
