Jean Demosthene Dugourc (1749-1825)
A student of Saint -Aubin, he became known before the Revolution by a large engraving titled, Prayer Venus, after Netscher, as well as drawings of gallant subjects, costumes and even portraits.
He tried new methods in engraving ornaments, and in these, he showed true talent as a draftsman and engraver. Dugourc distinguished himself in the making of Playing Cards for the New Republic. Main allegories in Dugourc cards are War, Trade, Peace and the Arts, Cults, Professions, Marriage and the Press.
