Biography Jeremiah Dummer
A resident of the Boston area in the late 17th and early 18th century, Jeremiah was known to be a silversmith and thought to be a portrait painter, although that has not been proven. The description of him being a portrait painter came in 1921 from an unreliable art dealer, F.W. Bayley, who said he had two portraits signed by Dummer, but the attribution were challenged by scholars in the 1950s.
Dummer was born in Newbury, Massachusetts on September 14, 1645 and died in Boston on May 25, 1718.
