Biography Jim Watson
From Arlington, Virginia, Jim Watson credits Spanish artist Joaquin Sorolla as his major inspiration for his self-described style of "contemporary impressionism." He spent many years as an art professor, and in his retirement spent much time painting and travelling to art exhibitions. His early training was in Abstract Expressionism as a student at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he earned a B.F.A. and an M.F.A. Although he developed a more realistic style and broke away from Abstract Expressionism, he credits the movement for his tremendous respect for the act of painting.
