Biography Johannes Hendrik Armand
Johannes Hendrik Armand – Netherlands. Born in Maastrict on January 6, 1855 and died in The Hague on December 20, 1941. Armand was a gifted and versatile artist. He produced artwork in several mediums including etchings, illustrations, paintings and sculpture.
His paintings were very much influenced by The Hague School artists, and for several years he was a student of a leader in The Hague School movement named Theophile de Bock (Netherlands 1851 – 1904).
Johannes Armand’s early work embraced the style and sentiment of The Hague School. Like other of his Dutch contemporaries of that era, he chose subjects from nature using subdued color tones; particularly the greys associated with Hague School artists.
