Born in Westmoreland, England in 1827. Todd drew portraits in Norwalk and Cleveland, OH before joining the Gold Rush to San Francisco in 1853. Upon arriving, a fire burned all his belongings. He then settled in Sacramento. After a flood destroyed his unholstery shop in 1861, he worked as a drawing teacher and photographer. In 1886 he relocated to San Francisco and continued as a photographer until his demise in 1899. Exh: Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1857, 1886; Calif. State Fair, 1859-82; New Orleans Expo, 1886.
