“Work of Promising Young Artists Being Featured in Art Gallery,” Laguna Beach Post, Oct. 4, 1951, p. 4, and says “In his 26 years John Bean has lived in New York, New Jersey, Cape Cod, Brazil, and in Los Angeles where he studied at the Otis and Jepson art institutes with such well-known teachers as Rico LeBrun and Henry Lee McFee. He studied also at the Art Students League in New York.
In 1948 he won first prize in the Los Angeles County Exhibition held at the Otis Art Institute. The same year he exhibited in the Santa Paula Annual Exhibition and at the California State Fair in Sacramento. In 1949 he was represented in a group show at the Creative Gallery in Manhattan and the following year held a one-man show at the same gal
