Born in South Manchester, CT on Oct. 20, 1801. By 1829 Cheney had a studio in Boston and in 1833 went to Europe to study art. He traveled widely doing engravings for publishers and was in California during 1872-74. He died in his native city on Oct. 20, 1885.
