John Patrick

John Douglas (J.D.) Patrick was active/lived in Missouri, Pennsylvania, Kansas.  John Patrick is known for animal, genre, portrait painting, art education.

John Douglas Patrick (1863-1937)

The son of Scottish immigrants, he was born in Hopewell, Pennsylvania in 1863; he died in Kansas City, Missouri, in January, 1937.  A painter, he specialized in landscapes, portraits, still life.  He was also a teacher.

He moved with his family from Pennsylvania to a farm near Lenexa in 1878.  Patrick attended the St. Louis School of Art for four years then left in 1885 to study at the Academié Julian in Paris.  His talent was recognized by the faculty and he had paintings accepted for the Paris Salon, the prestigious annual exhibition, in 1886 and 1887.
