John Ekin Dinwiddie

John Ekin Dinwiddie was active/lived in California, Illinois, Louisiana.  John Dinwiddie is known for Etching; Architecture.

Biography   John Ekin Dinwiddie

Born in Chicago, Illinois on Oct. 27, 1902.  The Dinwiddie family settled in the San Francisco Bay area when John was a small boy.  John's father, Wm S. Dinwiddie, established Dinwiddie Construction which built the Russ Bldg, Golden Gate Theater, Memorial Opera House, and others.  Following graduation from University High School in Oakland, John Dinwiddie received a B.A. degree from UC Berkeley, and did undergraduate work under architect Eliel Saarinen in Michigan.  The elder Saarinen held him in high regard, and Dinwiddie in turn remembered him as his principal mentor. 

 By 1932 he had returned to Berkeley. The following year he opened an office and designed many fine homes in the San Francisco Bay
