Born in Newburyport, ME in 1813. Early in life Cloudman was a carpenter and, after opting for an art career, sailed to Paris in 1847 for one year of study. While in northern California in 1852-53, he painted the Pomo Indians. He died in Bethel, ME on Oct. 11, 1892. In: Portland (ME) Museum.
