John H. Weygandt was an impressionist landscape painter who lived in New Hope from 1926 until 1951. He was born in Slatington, Pennsylvania, and received his formal art training at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with Thomas Eakins, Robert Vonnoh, Thomas Anshutz and William Merritt Chase. He then traveled to Paris for two years of studies at the Atelier Colarossi with Andre Dauchez, Lucien Simon and Jacques Blanche.
A gifted artist, Weygandt's paintings are distinct as he used a series of small broken brush strokes throughout his entire compositions.
