Born in New York City on June 29, 1918, John Coakley settled in Los
Angeles with his family in 1925. For many years he was president
of the Backings Corporation which provided television and motion
Primarily a watercolorist, he painted landscapes of the High Sierra and
the desert near Palm Springs as well as urban scenes with boats and
Coakley died in Los Angeles of heart failure on Feb. 6, 1970.
