John J. Howard (1887- 1941)
John J. Howard was born in Bangor, Maine but by the time of the 1900 Census, the family had moved to Massachusetts. Howard initially studied at the University of Cincinnati, likely to attend the newly added Teacher's College, but soon returned to attend the Massachusetts Normal Art School in Boston, established to educate future art teachers in drawing instruction. There his instructors included Joseph De Camp and Ernest Major, and he graduated in 1910. He was also known to have studied with Aldro T. Hibbard.
