Biography John Rowland Barker
John Rowland Barker was born October 1911 Barker started out as a graphic designer, working initially as an assistant to the poster designer Austin Cooper before going freelance, signing himself "Kraber" as middle European designers were apparently rather well thought of in the 1930's. As a radio operator in the Merchant Navy, Barker could do little painting during the war but in 1951 he was commissioned to do a mural for the Festival of Britain in Battersea Park and another for Parliament Town Hall.
He exhibited in mixed shows, notably at the Piccadilly Gallery, Cork St in 1958 with one other painter, but tragically died the following year of cancer.
