John Stimson

John Ward Stimson was active/lived in New Jersey, California.  John Stimson is known for landscape, illustrator.

Biography   John Stimson


Painter, illustrator. Born in Paterson, NJ on Dec. 16, 1850.

Stimson studied at Yale University and in Paris at Ecole des Beaux Arts. He was a director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, founder of Artist-Artisan Institute in New York, and the School of Fine & Industrial Arts in Trenton, NJ. During his career he authored three books on art education. By 1916 he had retired to southern California and settled in Corona.
