John Wilson, also known as Jock Wilson (1774-1885) British

"The artist was assigned as an apprentice to a designer, and was then helped by Alexander Nasmyth.  He was a teacher of drawing at Montrose and for a time, painted landscapes there.  In 1798, he established himself in London, and was often employed as a scene painter for theatres.  He exhibited in London from 1807 until his death.  Wilson was one of the founders of the Society of British Artists and exhibited no fewer than 300 works at Suffolk Street.  He exhibited as frequently in Edinburgh, and was named an honorary member of the Royal Scottish Academy."
