Jose Chavez Morado was born in Silao, Mexico on January 4, 1909. During a stay in Los Angeles in the 1920s Morado studied at the Chouinard Art Institute and then studied on a grant at Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas. During the 1940s he created some of Mexico's most beautiful mosaic murals. In 1960 he began sculpting in bronze and created several monumental works. He died in Guanajuato on December 2, 2002.
