Born in Vienna, Austria on Oct. 12, 1852. Kahler was a resident of San Francisco by 1883. He was art director of the Hearst papers in Chicago and San Francisco from 1883-1928. Many of his paintings went up in flames in 1906. His rare works include portraits, landscapes, Indian and historical genre in watercolor and oil. Kahler died in Los Angeles on Jan. 22, 1937.
