Biography Joseph Di Giorgio
Known for lush, large-scale landscapes in a modernist romantic style, Joseph DiGiorgio was born in Brooklyn and studied art at Cooper Union and with Hans Hofmann in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
Many of his paintings were in a series related to a specific topics such as the Grand Canyon and the Hudson River. In these works, he combined feelings for the grandeur, such as those expressed by 19th-century romantic painters, with a semi-abstract style and use of pure color.
In 1975, he had his first New York solo exhibition, held at the Michael Walls Gallery. His last show before his death on May 26, 2000 was at the Kouros Gallery in spring 2000.
