Joseph Farrell MacDonald was born in Waterbury, CT on April 14, 1875. MacDonald was educated in Canada and studied art under Carl Russell in London and with Milan Ghent. He first arrived in Los Angeles in 1912; he then worked as a writer and actor in various U.S. cities. After serving in WWI, he settled in Los Angeles where he was a character actor in the movies while painting and exhibiting in his leisure. He died in Los Angeles on Aug. 2, 1952.
