Biography Joseph Paget-Fredericks
An illustrator, set designer, painter and art educator, Joseph Paget-Fredericks was born in San Francisco and spent most of his career in Berkeley where he studied at the University of California. By age sixteen, he was designing theatre sets and theatrical pageants, and during the 1950s, he taught color and design at the California College of Arts and Crafts.
He spent ten years traveling and studying in Europe including at Oxford and Cambridge Universities and with Leon Bakst and John Singer Sargent. He was a member of the British Watercolor Society and exhibited in 1927 at the Bordeaux Expo in France and in 1929 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London where he won a gold medal.
