Biography Julia Raymond
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Julia Raymond became a painter known for her coastals, landscape, and harbor views. She also painted churches, old houses, and mountain scenes, and spent three years studying with Lorenzo Latimer in Northern California painting the giant redwoods.
She was the daughter of Charles Raymond, who had a fleet of tugboats, and growing up around water, she developed an ongoing fondness for the sea. Raymond studied art in New York at Pratt Institute (1890) and Adelphia College, in Brooklyn (1896-1900), and at Adelphia became especially enthusiastic about watercolors.
