Biography Julia Lucy Hills Whitney
Julia Lucy Hills Whitney was born in Muskegon, Michigan, October 6,1868. A student at Wellesley College, she took up the study of music early and played in concert. She also studied art in Paris and painted numerous figure and landscape designs.
She was active in many philanthropic activities, including one in Chicago for ''feeding and clothing men who were the victims of financial reverses''.
She moved to the Altadena, California community where she resided until her death.
Seeing just a few of her painting suggests that she would be considered an early ''Eucalyptus painter'' in Southern California, and she was a very fine but unknown artist, as she did not paint for sale. Displaying 750 of 844 characters.
