Born in Germany on Dec. 1, 1883, he came to the U.S. in 1898. Sturz settled in San Diego in 1908. He studied there at the Academy of Fine Arts. While working as a tailor, he painted in his leisure. Using a pointillist technique, he painted scenes of the back country of San Diego County.
He died there on Oct. 8, 1966.
