Biography Julius Steinkopf
Julius Steinkopf was the son of a distinguished Stuttgart artist family. His grandfather Johann was appointed court animal painter in Stuttgart in 1801. Julius' father Gottfried, born in 1778, studied landscape painting in Vienna and lived in Rome for several years where he met the great Johann Anton Koch, who had substantial influence on him. In 1829 Gottfried Steinkopf began teaching at the Stuttgart art school, in 1833 he was appointed professor and later the school's head master.
