Katchador Boroian

Biography   Katchador Boroian

Born in Chunkoosh, Armenia on June 15, 1889. Boroian avoided being drafted into the Turkish army by immigrating to the U.S. in 1912. After settling in Chicago, he attended the AIC for four years while supporting himself in commercial art. In 1914 he and John Norton painted a mural on the Chicago Daily News building. He served in the U.S. Army during WWI, painting helmets and artillery for camouflage. Due to an eye injury he had to abandon his art career. After the war he moved to Los Angeles. He and his wife, Julia, worked in a grocery store until saving enough money to buy a 20-acre farm near Dinuba, CA. The couple lived there until her death in 1975. Boroian then moved to Fresno, CA where he remained until his demise on June 30,
