Katharine Seymour Day Dies at 93: Civic Leader
Miss Day, a leader in many civic causes, succumbed after a lengthy illness at her residence, the Harriett Beecher Stowe House, 73 Forest Street.
She was one of the prime movers in the campaign to save Mark Twain‘s home on Farmington Avenue and took a zealous interest in preserving many other of the city’s landmarks.
Miss Day’s many interests included painting. She was educated at Hartford Public High School and by private tutors abroad. She studied art at the Academie Julian* and Atelier Moderne* in Paris and exhibited her landscapes and still life’s both in Paris and in the United States.
