Katherine Von Minckwitz was an easel painter, muralist, graphic artist, sculptor, and teacher born in New York City in 1903. She worked in oil and gouache, and specializing in genre and figurative works, depicted the American scene which in a modern representational painting style commonly associated with the WPA era of the 1930s and ‘40s.
At the age of twelve, while visiting Indiana with her mother, Katherine suffered an accident while boarding a railroad car, which resulted in the loss of one of her legs; she was subsequently awarded $16,000 by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. In the early 1920s she attended the University of Nebraska, as well as the University of Minnesota where she was a member of the Kappa chapter of the Delta
