Katherine Crawford was best known for her portraiture work and still life paintings. In addition, she was an art teacher and gallery owner.
Crawford was born in Oxford, Mississippi in 1861. She attended the Oxford Female College. She moved to France in 1887 to study at the Academies Colarossi and Julian and also studied and traveled in Vienna, Florence, England, Scotland, Paris, Rome, and Berlin. Crawford received art instruction from Jules-Clement Chaplain, Edmond-Louis Dupain, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, and Albert Durand.
After her studies and travels in Europe, Crawford returned to the U.S. in 1894 and began teaching at the North Texas Female College and the Kidd-Key Conservatory of Music and Art in Sherman, Texas. In 1895
