Born in China in 1840. Lai Yong has the distinction of being the earliest known Chinese artist who was active in California. He maintained a gallery in San Francisco on Dupont Gai (now Grant Avenue) from 1867-75. His track is lost after that time. His painting of Adolph Sutro in the California Historical Society is the only one extant. Exh: Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1869.
