Born in Ely, NV on May 31, 1919. Steelman was raised in Oakland and lived in Marin County for many years. After serving in the Navy during WWII, he moved to southern California where he studied at the Chouinard Art School and Pasadena City College. Upon returning to Marin County in 1964, he switched from watercolor to oil and adopted the painting-knife technique. He died in Larkspur, CA on Feb. 28, 1986. His works include landscapes, still lifes, coastals and wharf scenes of northern California. Member: SWA. Exh: GGIE, 1939.
