Biography Laura Ferguson
A painter of imagery of human anatomy, Laura Ferguson was commissioned by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons to create the keynote art for the call for art entries for their exhibition of Orthopaedic Art at the Presidio in San Francisco in February, 2001.
Ferguson's paintings derive from her experiences with her own skeletel challenges from having scoliosis, a deformity of the spine. In her artwork, she creates a layered effect by floating oil paint on water and then transferring the floating image to paper. Later she draws figurative images on the surface, and a three-dimensional effect is created of moving to the interior of the figure. To be realistic, she has consulted with orthopedists and radiologists.
