Biography Lawrence Russell
Lawrence Russell (1875-1939) was from New Albany, Indiana, across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky. Despite being a contemporary of James L. Russell, the artist who started the Wonderland Way Art Club at his Art Shop in New Albany in 1906, Lawrence Russell was not a relation. But he was a friend of James L. Russell, a major figure in Louisville-area art.
According to his son, Maurice, John Lawence Russell loved to visit the Art Shop, and he is listed as an exhibitor in the Sixth Annual Exhibition of the Art Shop in 1923.
