Biography Leah Verity "Lettie" Hook
From Middletown, Ohio, Leah Verity Hook, known as Lettie, was active in the early 20th century as a painter who became known for portraits, still lifes and Arizona landscapes. She was the daughter of George Matthew Verity (1865-1942), who founded the American Rolling Mill Company (ARMCO) in Cincinnati, and who, in 1900, moved the company to Middletown.
Leah Verity, one of three children, was raised at 230 South Main Street in Middletown, and married Charles Ruffin Hook, who became Company president. She studied at the Cincinnati Academy and with Jane Freeman in New York City.
