LEIGH SHERWOOD TOMAN (March 20, 1885 – February 17, 1947)
Equine portrait painter and illustrator. Born in Independence, Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Minnie A. Sherwood (b. 1860) and Sidney S. Toman (1858 – 1921). His father was the owner and editor of the American Trotter and Pacer magazine. The family lived in Passaic, Passaic County, New Jersey by 1909, where they lived on Bloomfield Avenue.
