The name Lenore Clark is in a file of the Museum of Nebraska Art because of that signature on a sketch titled Dobytown, 1863, which is described in Nebraska State Historical Leaflet No. 7, Fort Kearney. Also there is a note that “most of her work appears to be primitive.”

Nothing further about Lenore has been found, but a plausible suggestion about her and the sketch is that she did it as was one of the many travelers who stopped at Kearney City. This settlement, near the present city of Kearney, Nebraska, was nicknamed Dobytown because of the resemblance to adobe structures of its twelve to fifteen earthen buildings.
