Leslie Furlong - 1905–1989
Leslie Modena Evans was born on April 7, 1905, in Laguna, Texas, the daughter of Oscar Bruce and Anne Myrtle (Asher) Evans. Raised in Bandera, Texas, she moved to California in the 1930s. Living in Los Angeles, she studied at the Otis Art Institute.
Leslie also studied sculpture and portraiture with Elanor Colburn, Ruth Peabody, Sueo Serisawa, and other artists in the Laguna Beach arts community. She continued her studies at the Taos School of Art, New Mexico, with Emil Bisttram and attended Claremont Graduate School where she studied under Millard Sheets, Phil Dike, and Henry Lee McFee. Her early work is signed Leslie Evans, which she stopped using after her marriage to Charles James Morrison
