Biography Lewis Lutz
A portrait, landscape and interior scene painter much affiliated with the Cincinnati Art Academy, Lewis Cass Lutz was a student there from 1875 to 1878. Beginning 1877, he taught night classes there, and continued "as a teacher of drawing, perspective and finally oil painting until his death." (80)
Lutz was born and raised in Cambridge City, Indiana. Around 1882, it is thought he traveled with Thomas Noble to Munich and remained there as a student for two years. Then, on a grant from the Cincinnati Academy where he had taught in the interim, he lived in Paris for a year beginning summer of 1892. There he studied at the Academy Julian, Academy Colarossi and in the studio of Auguste-Joseph Delecluse (1855-1928).
