Born in Chicago, IL on Jan. 16, 1892. The Whitcomb family moved to Santa Barbara, CA in 1904. Lois was a pupil of Leon. V. Solon and Frederick H. Rhead, the latter of whom she married in 1917. The years 1917-29 were spent in Zanesville, OH with her husband. Returning to Santa Barbara, she then became active in the local art scene and lived in Carpinteria until her demise on Sept. 4, 1994.
